This site appears to have a large number of fake profiles which contact you as soon as you register and then once you have joined disappear or have mundane conversations and never answer your questions if you pose any. They come back with a bland did you have a nice weekend mine was ok.
There maybe or probably are some real profiles but the 50:50 split is probably nearer 80:20 so you may get success but you have more chance in the pub and at least you will have had a good night out.
If you are under 40 you will stand a much better chance anyone over 50 I would suggest your chances of success are minimal.

I have been on and off this site for a few years now. Initially it was good but the last two years I have to say there are so many fake profiles on it. You get mail from women and they let you see their photos and then as soon as you say lets meet they block you ! You cannot delete your profile and when it says it has over 800,000 'active' members, that is a complete lie. There are on average 600 members online at any one time and a lot of the ladies have been on there for years ! It has got genuine females on it looking for something extra , but that can be more than you want, and I have met a few over the years. Some have their own agenda but that`s fine. It is safe to assume that all of the positive reviews of this over-priced and rip off site below have been posted by the company behind Illicit Encounters. They certainly have no qualms about creating fake female profiles and messages to sucker guys into paying their exorbitant fees. Of course all activitiy from these supposedly interested 'women' evaporates as soon as you've paid up. You only start getting attention again from 'women' on the site when your subscription lapses. Wrong. Once I paid all the interest (like "virtual kisses" on my profile) stopped dead. Of those I wrote to most did not even reply, one asked for money nearly straight away and one other - who I was quite keen on - eventually admitted to be in it for the flirting but did not want to meet. Men are charged and women are not, which results in women scammers joining and they then give you a number to call that looks like a normal mobile number but gues what - its not. I complained to IE and their answer was they have fulfuilled their side of the deal so nothing they can do. I've been a member of Illicit Encounters twice now. The first time, early last year, I did meet a lovely lady with whom I had a several months long affair. When this affair finished I rejoined and was disappointed to discover that IE now engage in the dodgy marketing tactics of other sites. Having previously learnt the cautious behaviour of a typical female member, it was transparently obvious when I rejoined that IE, that the company had changed tactics in an attempt to extract more cash from me. I was suddenly bombarded with messages from ladies apparently lusting after me (even though I had not posted any publicly viewable pictures). I think I should need my head testing for paying over 100 pounds for 1 month membership of a dating site. I had 1 month membership last year (2010) and met one nice lady - it could have gone somewhere if I had more opportunities for meeting but I think she was just a flash in the pan. But the amount of time spent writing witty messages etc and the cost don't really justify it. Nearly all the profiles are genuine I would say - the sheer ordinariness of the ladies is proof of that and most keep their picture hidden. It's quite re-assuring to read some of the males having a similar experience on here.
I have to say the first time I joined I did have a couple of meets and successes (in 08) but subsequently upon re-joining it seems that it's now become a commercial exercise to extract one-off member with the extortionate joining fee. I set up two very different profiles (non Gold member) and each was contacted (in the first instance) by exactly the same women, with similar generic names and very similar profile content. It seems they are just enticing you to join one off, it doesn't matter if you don't come back due to the high fee you paid.
This is a shame as there are a few genuine women on there but it does seem quite an effort to find those. Another issue is that because the females don't have to pay it seems that a few just use it an ego massaging exercise rather than seriously for who it is trying to match up (you can tell as they are still there after a few years!). So you have a huge mismatch of guys thinking they will message everything and anything just because of the outlay. Racist Website and will delete you for no apparent reason
When i first joined it was going very well, had one rude guy post me a message, of which i put in his place.
I am not sure if he complained or if it was when i was amending my profile. I got told i was not suitable for the site.
God only knows what suitable was supposed to be as i had a large response from guys in fact in my first few hours of joining i had 22 messages.
When i emailed the support email address, they did not give any reason for freezing my details, i had 16 messages i was not able to respond to.
When i asked why am i still being emailed updates from men who are interested and i am not being able to respond, still no response from the support dept.

Sorry, this site really does NOT work. I thought the high price would justify the quality. Having made a lot of effort to write a genuine and thoughtful profile, it's come to no avail. I never actually got a response from any of the women I liked. Occasionally I do, to say no thanks. But that's it.
Now some of these profiles are definitely fake. And there is sadly a high ratio of men, so women have the pick. Plus a lot of them want their ideal. They're way too fussy it seems. And to be honest, to big yourself up in a profile like this is not something most people can do, or would do. Even if they're extremely confident.
